Ballooning in the Maasai Mara Game Park and Taita Hills

Early morning balloon rides over the Masai Mara/Taita Hills provide a wonderful perspective on the wilderness areas. After landing, the crew sets up a champagne breakfast. Ballooning can be arranged in the Masai Mara and the Taita Hills (and the Serengeti in Tanzania).

This exhilarating experience commences at dawn with approximately one hour in the air, followed by a bush breakfast complete with sparkling wine. You depart your lodge before sunrise and take off as the sun rises.

The direction and duration of the balloon trip is dependant on the prevailing weather conditions. Optional balloon trips take the place of the morning game drive. Please note that ballooning is subject to weather conditions. On certain safaris we offer 2 for 1 ballooning for honeymoon couples.

Children under the age of 12 are not permitted and height restrictions apply.

Hot Air Ballooning in the Serengeti Game Park

On certain safaris which include night-stays in Serengeti, hot air balloon rides are available upon prior notice and at an extra cost. For the adventure of a lifetime we can offer the group the unique experience of a Balloon Safari over the Serengeti plains. If you choose ballooning, plan to depart early in the morning to the launch site for the hot air balloons – you must depart early to enjoy the calm morning sky. Your balloon pilot will guide the balloon low over the Serengeti plains, providing you with the chance to see the different wildlife at their early morning activities such as:

• Hippos returning to the water after wandering for food in the dark,
• Elephants coming out for their morning feeding,
• Lions returning from the hunt.

If there is a special activity going on, the pilot will bring the balloon down close to the treetops for a better view. Skimming over the treetops, you will have a chance to see the game in action and up close. The flight lasts about an hour with ample opportunity for photography. After landing, there is a traditional champagne toast, followed by breakfast cooked on the balloon burners in the middle of the Serengeti plains before you proceed on game drives in a four by four vehicle with open roof for game viewing as you return to your lodge or luxury tented camp.
