Mt. Kilimanjaro Climbing and Treking on Machame/Mweka Route

DAY 1:(About 6 hrs walking)
The drive from Moshi to the mount Kilimanjaro National Park gate takes about 50 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. Once we reach the park gate, climbers are requsted to make their final preparations for the climb. Porters will be seen arranging their packs containing the food , water, firewood and other equipment. Make sure you have all your items with you as the poters travel very quickly. The guides will be pleased to assist with any addational information. We now leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail to the first uniport hut which is located at an altitude of 3,048m. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame hut. Here we make camp rest, enjoy our dinner and overnight, we now reached an altitude of 3,100.

DAY 2:(About 4 hrs walking)
After the breakfast we leave the glades of the forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the little valley walking along the steep rocky ridge covered with heather until the ridge ends, the route now turns west onto a river Gorge at (4,876m). Time for rest ,dinner and onernight at the Shira hut camp.

DAY 3:(About 6 hours walking)
From the Shira plateau we continue to the East passing the junction, towards the peak of Kibo, as we continue our direction changes to Southeast toward the Lava tower, called "The Shark's Tooth". Shortly after the tower we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow glacier, we have now reached an altitude of (4,876m). We now continue down to the Barranco hut at an altitude of (3,860m). Here we rest, enjoy dinner and overnight.

DAY 4:(About8hrs walking)
After the breakfast we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco wall passing through the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects with the Mweka trail. We continue to Barafu hut, which is located at an altitude of (4,600m). Here we make camp, rest, enjoy dinner and overnigt. The two peaks of Mawanzi and Kobo are to be seen from this position.

DAY 5: (About 11 hours walking) The hardest day.
Early morning we continue our ascent to Stella point (5,745m) on our way to the summit.(Uhuru peak) (5,985m). This part of the climb takes about 6 hrs. We have now reached the highest point on Kilimanjaro and the highest point in africa. Descend to campsite (3100m) (This part of the descent takes about 5 hours ). Later in the evenng we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well earned sleep.

DAY 6:(About 4 hours walking)
After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka park gate and drive back to Moshi.

FINAL NOTES:
Make sure that you drink at least 3-4 liters of liquid a day, preferably water. The water on the mountain is safe to drink. Take a sip every now and then. You will lose a large amount of fluid through the lungs and sweating.

REMEMBER A FUNCTIONING BODY, WATER BALANCE IS ONE OF THE KEYS TO A SUCCESSFUL CLIMBING
